Nevegal is the Anti-Hyped Mountain Escape — and that's Why you'll Love it

If you’re looking for a hyped travel destination in Northern Italy, this is definitely not it.

And that’s exactly why Nevegal might just steal your heart :)

If you want facts, there’s a Wikipedia page, though it hasn’t even earned an English translation yet. But if you’re into silence, very few people, and mountain views, keep reading.

We’re from Belluno, and Nevegal is basically our childhood playground. It was where you went sledding, where you learned to ski, and where there was always snow: loads of it, the good old days, before climate change became a dinner-table topic.

Just a 20–30 minute drive from Belluno, Nevegal was once a booming ski area in the Veneto mountains. In 1985 it even hosted all the alpine and cross-country skiing events for the XII Winter Universiade. There were tourists, hotels, sports events, people building things and dreaming big. Some of us even got our first summer jobs up here.

And then… the late 90s and early 2000s happened. Snow disappeared, investments went wrong, things stalled. We don’t really know what went down  we were busy trying to see the world. Because when you grow up in a small mountain place, you want out.

Time passed, but Nevegal remained the classic spot for a quick hike when home, most likely our favorite sunrise hike. One summer, while Belluno was boiling hot, we headed up to Nevegal to escape the heat. It was perfect. Cool air, trees, that feeling of being way up there: lassù. And yes, that’s literally why we named the apartment “Lassù.” We figured: why search for a poetic name when we already have one? It’s up there. We’re up there. Seems legit.

So we started spending more weekends up here. We rediscovered old trails, met people working on old and new projects, and saw a quiet little comeback happening. Because here’s the thing: when you get older, nature suddenly becomes the best plan. You start craving silence, space, real mountains, and slow travel destinations that are a little off the radar.

Is the “Nevegal revival” happening?

Honestly… we have no idea. But we believe this place has something special.

Maybe it’s the fact that it’s not overrun by tourists.

Maybe it’s the simplicity.

Maybe it’s the hidden-gem vibe that still feels authentic.

Maybe it’s the views that reset your brain and remind you to pause.

So we decided to invest some time in creating a space where we — and you — can feel at home, away from home.

A quiet base to unplug, look at actual mountains instead of screens, and enjoy what Nevegal still does best: being itself, not fancy, no hype.

Because Nevegal is okay.

Actually… it’s way better than okay.
