If you’re chasing endless lifts, sprawling ski domains, and après-ski scenes that buzz long into the night, you’ll find plenty of places built exactly for that.
Nevegal isn’t one of them.
If what you’re craving instead is silence, wide-open views, empty trails, and that rare feeling of being truly lassù, above it all, away from the noise, then this is where you want to be.
Hiking Trails
Nevegal is made for slow exploration.
Think quiet forests, open meadows, and gentle ridgelines, a landscape that invites you to wander without rushing.
A few trails worth checking out
Sentiero n. 13 aka Sentiero delle Creste (the iconic one)
If you do just one walk in Nevegal, make it this.
This trail follows the ridgeline for several kilometers, hovering around 1,500–1,700 meters altitude, with that unforgettable feeling of being suspended between mountains and plains.
Expect a medium-length hike (around 8–12 km depending on your route), with constant, wide views stretching from the Dolomites to the Venetian plain.
It’s easily one of the best sunrise or sunset walks in the area.
Sentiero n.2 – “De la Coca”
Looking for something more challenging? This is your route.
Starting from Piazzale del Nevegal, the trail climbs steadily along the ski slopes toward Col Visentin (1,763 m).
It’s a more direct ascent (approx. 600–700 m elevation gain, 6–9 km round trip) — perfect if you want a proper workout with a clear goal.
At the top, you’re rewarded with big views, and that satisfying “earned it” feeling.
Sentiero n.6 – “Del Toront”
If you’re in the mood for something slower and more relaxed, this one fits perfectly.
Starting again from Piazzale del Nevegal, the trail gently winds through the forest before opening up to wider views.
After about 4–5 km, you’ll reach Casera Erte, famous for its giant red bench , a perfect pause point.
From there, you can continue to Malga Col Toront (1,399 m) for even broader panoramas
It’s an easy-to-moderate route (5–10 km total depending how far you go)
Flora and Fauna
Nevegal is full of quiet encounters, especially if you head out early.
In the morning, the landscape feels like a different world, still, hushed, almost untouched.
If you’re lucky, you might catch glimpses of deer, foxes, or even a capercaillie, moving silently through the landscape. Add to that the constant presence of birds, and the occasional curious cat crossing your path, and the experience becomes quietly unforgettable.
Many of the trails wind through a mix of dense forest and open clearings, creating a landscape that’s not just beautiful, but rich in biodiversity.
Outdoor Activities
Plot twist: Nevegal isn’t only for slow travelers.
Mountain Biking
There’s a quietly growing MTB scene here, with trails mapped on Trailforks and options for different levels, from flowy lines to more technical terrain.
But what makes riding here special isn’t just the trails. It’s the feeling.
No queues. No noise. No rush.Just fresh mountain air and space to ride at your own pace.
Skiing and Snowboarding
When winter delivers, Nevegal becomes a low-key winter playground.
The slopes are part of the Dolomiti Ski Line, offering terrain suitable for beginners through to more experienced skiers.
Let’s be clear, this is not Cortina d'Ampezzo. And that’s exactly the point.
It’s skiing stripped back to what matters: a simple day in the mountains, quiet, easy, and unexpectedly perfect.
Local Cuisine
Nature is the main character here, yes. But food is definitely part of the fun!
Rifugio Bristot
A true local classic at around 1,616 m, known for its wide-open panoramas and hearty mountain dishes.
Rifugio Col Toront
Set at about 1,399 m, near the old chairlift arrival, with a terrace perfectly positioned for sunny lunches or a relaxed aperitivo.
Ristorante La Casera
Not a rifugio, but a Nevegal institution, great food, cozy indoor space, and a practical starting point for several hikes.
A plate of local food, a glass of wine in the sun, a view that lingers, the little things that make you want to stay just a little longer.
Nevegal isn’t trying to be famous, and that’s why it works
Nevegal does not try to impress you.
But if you give it time, a sunrise hike, a quiet trail, a warm plate at the end of the day, it slowly begins to stay with you.
Not all at once. Not loudly. But in a way that feels real.
